Fit Tips

Fit tips to determine your correct bra size

Band size

Most of the support from your bra comes from the band. It should fit snuggly and lie flat on the skin around the ribs and back.

If the back rides up, the band is too large.

If you have it on the tightest closing it is also too large (a bra should fit to be fastened on the outside or middle fastening. The fabric will stretch over time with wearing, so you will need to be able to tighten it later.

You should be able to slip 2 fingers under the band. If you can not, or the band is digging into the skin uncomfortably, it is too tight and you should move to a looser back.

Adjust the shoulder straps. They should not dig into the shoulder or be uncomfortable. If they do, the band of the bra is probably too large and not providing enough support, forcing more strain on the shoulders.

Cup size

The band and the wires of the cups should sit comfortably against the ribs. The band should not pull away from the skin and the wires should not sit on the breast tissue. If they do, the cups are too small and you should more to a larger cup size. It is very common that a woman is wearing a bra with a too small cup and too large band. You may find that if you have to increase the size of the cup, you also have to decrease the size of the bandwidth. Remember that the band should fit fairly tightly around the body.

If the top edge of the cup digs into the breast tissue the cup may be too small. However it may just be the wrong style bra. If a larger cup size does not help, try a bra that has a fuller cup style. This is quite common where the breast tissue is very soft.

If the cup puckers, is baggy, or you do not properly fill it, then it is too large and you need a smaller cup. If a smaller cup size does not work you may want to try a style of bra with a smaller style cup, for example, it you tried full cup bra puckers, try a half cup, demi or balcony bra.
